He was the voice behind the ever popular romantic number Sun raha na tu from Aashiqui 2. Apart from being a singer, Ankit Tiwari is also a composer and has scored the music for his songs. Some of his other notable hits also include Teri galiyan from Ek Villain which he composed too. This year, he will be crooning again for none other than Ajay Devgn in Prabhu Dheva’s Action Jackson.
After having lent his voice for Devgn previously in Singham Returns for the song Kuch toh hua hain, Tiwari will once again sing two songs for him in the action-comedy, namely Punjabi mast and Dhoom dhaam. True to its name, Punjabi mast is a Punjabi dance number. “The song, composed by Himesh Reshamiya, depicts Punjabis as fun-loving people, people who love to have a good time, drink and are party animals. They don’t impose any limits on themselves,” he says. Unlike other Punjabi dance numbers, this track doesn’t have bhangra beats.
Dhoom dhaam is a duet with Palak Muchal who sang Chaahun mein ya naa in Aashiqui 2. “The song is a soothing romantic number and it has a different feel and melody from other love songs. It’s not a passionate song about longing, but is about a couple appreciating each other and exchanging sweet nothings,” he says.
When asked about what it was like to work with Himesh Reshammiya, Tiwari stated, “Himeshji‘s compositions are different from others,” as he spoke about how his work stands out when compared to other composers. This talented singer also does not believe in imitating anyone. “I will deliver what I’m known for,” said Tiwari when asked if he modulated his voice to make it resemble Devgn’s.
Despite his success, Tiwari is modest, “I am still a struggler in a field of singing. It is good if other composers invite singers like us to sing their compositions,” says the singer who is keen to work for as many composers as possible. And his wish list comprises names like Pritam, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy among others.
Some of Tiwari’s other upcoming projects include Vikram Bhatt’s Mr. X starring Emraan Hashmi and Amyra Dastur and the thriller Roy, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Arjun Rampal. Tiwari will also be seen performing at MTV Unplugged Season 4.
