The hope of finding the two actors, Anil and Uday, is gradually fading away with each passing hour. Both drowned and now feared dead while shooting for the forthcoming Kannada film Mastigudi, starring Duniya Vijay. It is also becoming clear that the tragedy struck due to the sheer negligence of the filmmakers. The search for the actors was called off at night and resumed earlier on Tuesday.

The filmmakers had invited the television channels to witness the much-publicised climax sequence involving a risky stunt, reportedly made at the budget of Rs 1.2 crore. The filming was underway at Thippagondanahalli lake on the Magdi road in Bengaluru, when the two actors went missing in the reservoir.

Just moments before they were washed away in Thippagondanahalli lake, 35 kms west of Bengaluru, Anil and Uday had openly expressed how much they are uncomfortable with doing the now ill-fated action sequence, which involved jumping off the chopper into the lake.

“I know a little bit of swimming, but first time I’m jumping from a height. So that makes me a bit nervous. I have only swam in wells, where you can reach the edge with two or three strokes of your hand. But never swam 20 ft or 30 ft length,” Anil told the reporter on the Public TV. He also mentioned that if he is not rescued by the crew soon, he won’t be able to hold on in the water for a long time. Unfortunately, his warning came true.

“Same with me. I am not a good swimmer either. I have just come here to do the stunt. Stunt masters, Vijay and Anil are with me. We three will jump off the chopper together. Rest is up to God,” Uday told the reporter, which clearly shows that there were no safety measures in place to deal with an emergency situation.

Talking to another channel, Uday also revealed that he also has a fear of heights. The stunt wanted the actors to jump off the choppers from the height of at least 100ft.

A video has emerged in which two are seen jumping into the lake followed by the other. While the film’s leading man Vijay is seen wearing a safety gear, Anil and Uday jumped to their watery grave without any protection.

From the very beginning uncertainty and negligence of the filmmakers had been largely on display during the filming of the climax scene. According to reports, the filmmakers did not even have an ambulance or other safety measures in place to deal with an accident at the shooting spot.

Recuse operations are underway and officials are not very hopeful of finding survivors.
