Actor Dhanush kept his fans on social media guessing about his ‘mass announcement.’ For days, speculations were rife that the said announcement would be related to superstar Rajinikanth and Pa.Ranjith’s next film, which will be bankrolled by the actor’s home production banner, Wunderbar Films.
On Wednesday, Dhanush made a completely unexpected announcement: his next film. The actor will be starring in the sequel to his 2014 blockbuster film, Velaiyilla Pattathari. What’s more, the film will be helmed by his sister-in-law Soundarya Rajinikanth.
Yes, Soundarya will be directing Dhanush in Velaiyilla Pattathari 2. The bilingual film will be shot in Tamil and Telugu and will be co-produced by V Creations along with Wunderbar Films.
“Proud to be directing @dhanushkraja in this Cult Franchise for @theVcreations & @WunderbarFilms_ #D33 #BiLingual #Tamil&Telugu,” Soundarya tweeted, confirming the news with a teaser. It is a big news for Soundarya as she recently announced her upcoming directorial film titled Nilavukku Enmel Ennadi Kobam.
VIP2 marks the second collaboration of Soundarya with Kalaippuli S Thanu, who is also producing NEEK. V Creations also produced Rajinikanth’s recent blockbuster film, Kabali, which created an all-time worldwide box office record for a Tamil film.

Soundarya made her directional debut in 2014 with India’s first motion capture film Kochadaiiyaan, starring her father Rajinikanth in the lead. Velaiyilla Pattathari was the first major hit for Wunderbar Films. The film revolves around an unemployed engineering graduate, Raghuvaran, and how he overcomes all the challenges to become successful.

Young heartthrob Anirudh Ravichander will be scoring the music for VIP2. His song album for Velaiyilla Pattathari was a chartbuster. The makers, meanwhile, are yet to announce the remaining cast and crew.
