Sri Green Productions has reportedly bagged the distribution rights of actor Vijay’s upcoming movie Bhairavaa for a record price. An official word from the production house is still awaited. According to the sources, many distributors were vying to grab the theatrical rights of Bhairavaa due to the huge box office success of Vijay’s last film Theri.
Theri was this year’s first major release in Kollywood and besides domestic, it also dominated the worldwide box office for a Tamil film. The film held the number one position at the Tamil Nadu box office until Rajinikanth’s Kabali pushed it down to the second place.
In spite of opening to mixed reviews, the action flick, starring Vijay as a cop collected over Rs 30 crore in its first weekend in Tamil Nadu alone.
Remember, with great price-tag comes great responsibility. Vijay now shoulders huge expectations of delivering another box office blockbuster, given that the distributors who pay top dollar for his film will be up in arms if the movie duds at the box office.
Interestingly, Bairavaa, Vijay’s 60th film, is directed by Bharathan. Many criticised Vijay for teaming up with Bharathan yet again after the actor-director duo faced a major box office disaster, Azhagiya Tamil Magan.
Was Vijay right in giving a second chance to Bharathan? The answer will only be known after the release of the film.
The shooting for Bhairavaa, meanwhile, is in its final leg. The film’s crew has been shooting for an action sequence at Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh, after which they will head to Europe for filming a song.
The film also stars Keerthy Suresh, Jagapati Babu, Aparna Vinod, YG Mahendraa and Daniel Balaj in pivotal roles. It is slated for a Pongal 2017 release.
