Director Jayakrishnan aka Jay K is very confident that the worldwide success of Pulimurugan will have a positive impact on the upcoming films in Malayalam. The director is currently busy giving the final touch to his first full-length Malayalam film, Ezra.

The makers of the horror-thriller starring Prithviraj in the lead role are planning a big worldwide release next month. And the film has also ratcheted up the expectations with its recently released teaser.

“The kind of revenue that Pulimurugan is generating is exceptionally good for the industry,” Jay told Indianexpress.com. “We have this potential but It was untapped I’d say. It is good that somebody is paving way the way.”

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s recent blockbuster outing Pulimurugan has opened up new venues for films from the Kerala film industry. The film has broken several records and created a few since its release on October 7.

In its seventh week, Pulimurugan continues to keep the cash registers ringing at the box office as it has grossed more than Rs 70 crore from the ticket sales in Kerala alone. And the Mohanlal-starrer has achieved this benchmark despite demonetisation and piracy challenges.

The action thriller directed by Vysakh crossed the Rs 100-crore mark in its theatrical worldwide box office collection within a month of its release. It is the first Malayalam film to do so.

Not just in India, the film also took a strong opening in various parts of the world. “It has opened doors for the Malayalam film industry in different parts of the world like never before. Our primary market is Kerala. But, Pulimurugan is playing in Europe and in Norway. I don’t know any other (Malayalam) film that was released in Norway,” Jay, who is also an ad filmmaker, added.

Earlier this month, Pulimurugan was released in European countries, including Norway, Poland, France, Denmark among others.
