The harvest festival Onam is celebrated with much fervour in Kerala and it is also a time when you can lay back and watch a couple of good movies. Not just a couple, but here is a list of four movies, with a mix of thrill and fun plots, that released on Onam. We tell you which of them make for the perfect Onam watch. So what is on offer? From Mohanlal and Priyadarshan’s thrilling Oppam to Prithviraj Sukumaran’s revenge drama Oozham and family entertainer Jyo Achyutananda and lastly, Iru Mugan starring Vikram.
Providing a nail-biting experience, this Mohanlal starrer is a Malayalam crime thriller which is about a blind man with a heightened sense of smell, touch and sound. The man, who is an elevator operator, is charged with committing a murder while he is innocent. The rest of the movie revolves around how he hunts down the real killer and proves his innocence. Here is a Malayalam revenge drama from Jeethu Joseph starring Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role. The story is about Soorya (Sukurmaran) who specialises in controlled-explosion techniques, avenging a death in his family. He lives in the US and comes home on a two-month vacation to his home when he takes up a fight with a pharma company, which is responsible for the death. (Click here to read our review)
Another sci-fi thriller released this Onam was Iru Mugan, or Inkkokadu in Telugu. The movie had Virkam playing a double role both as a nice guy, the RAW agent, and a baddie, the transgender chemist. The story is about the RAW agent who avenges the death of his wife by hunting down the eccentric scientist and his enhancement drug named ‘Speed 5’. This title is a Telugu family entertainer, which is packed with two hours of gut-hurting laughter. Srinivas Avasarala’s title is a perfectly scripted story, laced with comedy filled in every sequence of the movie. The story is about two brothers (Naga Shourya and Nara Rohith) who evince their love for a girl (Jo) who lives as a tenant in their house. She likes neither of them and goes to the US for higher studies. While she makes a comeback, both the brothers are already married to their relatives.
