Kannada cinema’s onscreen and off-screen couple Meghana Raj and actor Chiranjeevi Sarja got engaged in a private ceremony in Bengaluru on Sunday. The couple who has been friends for about 10 years, will tie the knot soon.

The engagement first took place at Meghana’s Bengaluru residence, and was attended by the close family members and friends of the couple. The same evening, the celebrity couple hosted a party at Leela Palace, which was attended by who’s who of the Kannada film industry.

Actor Arjun Sarja was present by the side of his nephew, Chiranjeevi, throughout the ceremony. Dhruva Sarja, who is also an up-and-coming actor in Sandalwood, was in attendance too. “I was very happy when Chiru told me that he will marry Meghana. She is a very good person. I was not aware of their relationship until Chiru told me,” Dhruva told the media.

Meghana said she knew that Chiru will propose to her but was not sure when he will do it. “Arjun (uncle) played cupid for us as was the one who spoke to our family members about her relationship,” she added. It is the biggest celebration for my family because I’m the only daughter to my parents.”

Meghana has acted in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films, besides Kannada. She made her debut in 2009 with ‘Bendu Apparao R.M.P’. She has acted in many Malayalam films as compared to other languages. She was last seen in Kannada film ‘Noorondu Nenapu’ even as she is working on a few other projects.

Meghana says that she will continue to work in films even after her wedding. “Given that Chiru also comes from a family, which is closely associated with the film industry, I know I will get more support from them to pursue my acting career. I won’t stop acting. As long as we live, we will continue to act in films,” she said.

Chiru also made his acting debut in Kannada the same year Meghana entered the showbiz. His first film was ‘Vayuputra’ (2009), which was a remake of ‘Sandakozhi’, and was produced by his star uncle Arjun Sarja.
