In the battle for Kollywood box office collections this Diwali, the visually grand Karthi’s big budget movie Kaashmora appears as a clear win by minting a crore rupees more than Dhanush’s Kodi across Tamil Nadu on its screening day.
Reports suggest that Kaashmora collected close to Rs 5 crore on day one with better theater occupancy as compared to Kodi, which stood at a collection of Rs 4 crore. Both the movies were released on close to 500 centres. However, trade pundits are waiting for the weekend collections, which decide 90 per cent of lifetime numbers. Kodi, reportedly also had some shows getting canceled, cutting down the numbers of its opening day.
Meanwhile, reports on trade from US Box Office show a huge gap in the collections for the two movies. Kaashmora minted $76,804 (Tamil and Telugu), whereas Kodi could manage just $8,301 on the first day.
This is the biggest release of Karthi’s career as the film released on 1700 screens worldwide. The Tamil version of the film released on 150 screens and its Telugu version on 143 screens in the US, which is big in terms of screen count for a Karthi film. The film, made on a budget of Rs 55 crore, is said to be high on special effects, especially in the period portion, which is the highlight of the film.
Kodi, on the other hand, was released on about 40 screens in the US, which is less than his last film Thodari, which got 60 screens. However, Kodi has acquired more screens in Tamil Nadu as compared to Thodari, which released in about 250 theaters.
