After a big start on day one, Jyo Achyuthananda did way better than many recent releases on Onam. The movie minted around Rs 2.4 crore ($349000) in the first weekend since its release in the US.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh has tweeted out the numbers: “Telugu film #JyoAchyuthananda packed a punch in USA… Had EXCELLENT trending over the weekend… Collected $ 349,236 [₹ 2.34 cr]… contd.” Later adding the figures of the “Telugu film #JyoAchyuthananda on Thu $ 30,863, Fri $ 92,143, Sat $ 151,103, Sun $ 75,127. Total: $ 349,236 [₹ 2.34 cr] @Rentrak.” Directed by Srinivas Avasarala, the movie also is likely to cross half million dollars run by next weekend.
This seems to be an exceptional feat as Jyo Achyuthananda, starring Nagas Shourya and Nara Rohith, was pushed out on a small budget. On the other hand, Vikram starrer Iru Mugan — which had been made on a hefty budget — seemed to have little reception across the populace in the US. Reports suggested that Iru Mugan could manage only $200,000 and its Telugu dub collected $80000 dollars in the tally.
Even the Day 1 opening collection of Iru Mugan and its Telugu version is less than half compared to what JyoAchyuthananda got. “#EKSI #Irumugan $948 from 17 compared to #Inkokkadu $2102 from 16 screens – advance booking for premiere!!” ATMUS Entertainment, the Tamil film distributor in the US, had tweeted on day one of its release. Jyo Achyuthananda made $ 30,863 on day one of its release.
Following the blockbuster of the recent movies, Janatha Garage couldn’t add much to its US-BO coffer in the second week standing at a steady rate with a gross of $1.76 million. “Telugu film #JanathaGarage – USA – Week 2: Fri $ 32,862, Sat $ 61,641, Sun $ 26,659. Total: $ 1,735,688 [₹ 11.61 cr]. @Rentrak,” Adarsh tweeted.
