Foraying into a much-uncharted territory of making biopic about politicians, director Madhura Sreedhar Reddy, who is inspired by Telangana agitation, decided to make a biopic on chief minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao, popularly know as KCR.
“I discovered that the kind of challenges KCR faced were on par with what Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King faced during their movements. As a filmmaker, I decided to bring this history onscreen,” Madhuraa Sreedhar Reddy said.
The director shared that the interest sprang up after his father told him stories and incidents about the agitation that made him take a step forward to work on this theme. “After listening to the tales narrated by my father who was part of the Telangana agitation in 1969 and watching the incidents of current time, the director in me gave sleepless nights. I did some research in this angle and met the Telangana and Samaikyandhra activists separately. I had Goosebumps when I heard the way the likes of NTR, Chandrababu Naidu, YSR, Sonia Gandhi, Chiranjeevi, Lagadapati Rajagopal, Venkaiah Naidu, L K Advani and Pawan Kalyan understood the Telangana agitation,” he added.
The shooting of the movie is said to begin on June 2, 2017 on Telangana formation day and film will be released on February 17 on KCR’s birthday. Under his home banner Darmapada Creations, the movie will be bankrolled by Raj Kandukuri.
Director Mahdura Sreedhar Reddy made his debut in Telugu industry in 2010 with Sneha Geetham and went on to direct three more movies. He also produced and co-produced several films.
