Gautamiputra Satakarni is the 100th movie of N Balakrishna’s acting career and it is going to be one grand release. Directed by National Award-winner Krish, the film was launched on Monday in the presence of megastar Chiranjeevi, Victory Venkatesh and the Telangana chief minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao. The film is set to release in January as a Sankranti treat.
The movie is based on the life history of a warrior of the Satavahana empire in the second century CE, Gautamiputra Satakarni. The movie also features Shriya Saran and Bollywood star Hema Malini in crucial roles. Speaking at the launch of his 100th movie, Balakrishna said that the movie has a special space in his life.
“Though I heard many scripts and stories and fortunately, director Krish came forward with Gautamiputra’s script and then I realised that this will be a great role as Satakarni gave us the history and the Telugu calendar. It is also unfortunate to find out that only a few people know the history of this ruler, and this made me more determined to give a life to the character,” said Balakrishna, who is playing the titular role in this movie.
Another die-hard fan of the Nandamuri family, especially the legendary actor Nandamuri Tarak Rama Rao (NTR) himself, is none other the Telangana CM, K Chandrasekhar Rao. He has named his son K Tarak Rama Rao, who is the IT minister of the state, after NTR. The CM didn’t miss a chance to express his fandom and said he was elated that Balakrishna took up this character.
“I am very happy that Balakrishna in his 100th movie took a great decision to take up Gautamiputra Satakarni. Till now the Telugu audience knew our history as before and after Christ, but now after Balakrishna’s 100th movie, Telugu people will proudly remember their history from this Satavahana empire’s king Satakarni. This 100th movie will definitely run for more than 200 days because all the generations of Telugu population should see and know this story of Gautamiputra Satakarni. Also the movie will run because of the respect of the people to Nandamuri family, especially to NTR who made it possible to remember that Andhra people are distinct from being called as Madarasi,” he said.
The release of the movie incidentally clashes with Megastar Chiranjeevi’s 150th movie, Khaidi No 150. However, Chiru thinks this will be a great project for NBK. “Gautamiputra Satakarni will be remembered as one of Balakrishna’s best movies and it will be a cakewalk for him. There is also originality in the movies as it is directed by Krish who produced a Hollywood-level movie Kanche. I have a confidence that Krish will recreate what exactly happened in the history by doing justice to the character,” Chiranjeevi said.
The filmmakers also released a 1-minute teaser showing usual furious looking NBK in a regal look brandishing his sword.
