There has been a lot of buzz about Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s 61st film ever since it was reported that the film will be directed by Atlee. Now, according to latest reports, K V Vijayendra Prasad, noted screenplay writer and father of maverick filmmaker S S Rajamouli, has been tapped to pen the script for Vijay’s next film.

More from the world of Entertainment:

Vijayendra has written a screenplay for blockbusters like Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Rajamouli’s magnum opus Baahubali: The Beginning and Magadheera.

The reports added there are efforts to rope in Vijayendra and the versatile film writer is also seriously considering the opportunity to join hands with Vijay for his next film, which is now referred as Vijay 61. However, nothing has been decided as yet.

According to reports, Thenandal Films approached Atlee to direct another film with Vijay. The director had helmed this year’s one of the biggest box office blockbusters Theri.  The film also helped Vijay to raise the stakes in the Kollywood box office game, so much so that producers and distributors have been vying for the Tamil Nadu theatrical rights of Bairavaa.

Speculations are rife that, relatively new entrant, Sri Green Productions has bagged the rights of the film at an undisclosed price, which is also touted to be the third highest price ever paid for a Vijay-starrer. However, an official word on the same is awaited.

Vijay’s last two films, Their and Puli, had fetched Rs 49 crore and Rs 40 crore, respectively in film distribution rights.  Atlee made an impressive debut in 2013 with the super hit romantic drama Raja Rani. However, his last directorial venture, which had Vijay playing a role of a cop, took the box office by storm.

Vijay is currently busy shooting for his 60th film Bairavaa, which is directed by Bharathan. The film is produced under the Vijaya Productions banner and has Keerthy Suresh, Satish, Aparna Vinod and Y G Mahendran in important roles.

The film is slated for a Pongal 2017 release.
