Thala Ajith flew down to Chennai from Bulgaria in the wee hours of Wednesday to pay his tribute to late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who passed away on Monday due to prolonged illness. From the airport, Ajith directly drove to Jayalalithaa’s memorial on Marina beach. He was also joined by his wife Shalini to honour the departed.

Ajith, who has been shooting for his upcoming film Thala 57 in Bulgaria, issued a statement on Tuesday expressing shock and grief over the death of Amma. “I express my deepest condolences to the fellow citizens of Tamil Nadu to the cadres of the AIADMK on the demise of beloved leader Honourable Dr Puratchi Thalaivi Amma,” he said.

“She had fought many battles and stood tall among the leaders of our times. This news comes as a shock to me as we were praying for and hopeful of her speedy recovery. May her soul rest in peace,” he added. “I pray to the almighty to give us the strength during this time of grief.”

Ajith shared a cordial relationship with Jayalalithaa. So much so that it was rumoured that the late chief minister had named Ajith as her political heir. The rumors flew so thick and fast some media outlets even saw a possibility in this baseless and utterly ridiculous speculation and reported on it.

From Marina Beach, Ajith drove to the Apollo Hospitals to pay tribute to Cho Ramaswamy, who passed away after suffering a massive heart attack while he was still under medical care on Wednesday morning.

Ajith will take a flight back to Bulgaria later today to resume shooting for his upcoming film, said reports.
