Actor Rahul Raj Singh, chargesheeted by police for abetting the suicide of his girlfriend and television actress Pratyusha Bannerjee, was booked for driving under the influence of alcohol and without a licence Monday morning. He was let off after paying a fine.

According to police, Singh was driving to Bandra with his friend Saloni Sharma at 1 am when he was asked to stop at a traffic nakabandi on Juhu Tara Road.

“After traffic policemen smelled alcohol in his breath, Singh was asked to come out. He was then asked to produce his driving licence but he said he did not have it,” said an officer from Santacruz police station. Singh and Sharma were then taken to Santacruz police station, where the vehicle was impounded and Singh made to pay a fine.

Sharma allegedly got into an argument with inspector Shrikant Desai, who was on the nigh shift. “She was arguing with police to not take action, else she would complain to superiors. Desai tried to pacify them. But they still argued,” said Mumbai Police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Dudhe. Singh was asked to appear in court Monday to take back his licence.

Earlier this year, Singh was chargesheeted by the Kandivli police for abetting the suicide of his girlfriend, television actress Pratyusha Bannerjee. Sharma’s name had also cropped up in the police investigation after it emerged she had abused Bannerjee and trespassed into her Goregaon home in the weeks before the suicide.
