We live in an age where brands are fighting it out to sell their products. However, at times the advertisements are not able to impress or bring out any corresponding message. Hence, we end up failing to distinguish whether the ad is trying to sell a deodorant, soap, condom, fruit juice or men’s clothing. And then, amidst all this, we have actors like Shah Rukh Khan who are just ready to endorse anything irrespective of how the commercials will appear on screens.
One may think this is a hate article. But the truth is, we all have enormous respect for SRK’s sense of humour and acting prowess. However his choice of endorsements, at times, leaves us puzzled. We end up questioning why he chose to do that (including, lately even his choice of films!). He even endorses fairness creams for men which mostly do not go down well for someone as well read and strong headed like him. All this when actresses like Kangana Ranaut and Anushka Sharma, who are naturally fair skinned have rejected to be a part of any fairness creams’ campaign.
While we keep struggling to make adjustments with Shah Rukh Khan’s endorsements, he continues to offer us with many more ads, which again fail to impress. Yes, we just saw another one, from the Lux. SRK has been associated with the soap brand for years now. He bathed in a bathtub amid rose petals and sweared by the soap for his “beauty”. And all this while we kept wondering why he was doing that.
Its latest commercial begins with the strong convincing voice of King Khan, “Kya banayega stars ko superstars?” (What’ll help make a star, a superstar?) and then we hear the women whispering, “Lux Golden Rose”. Hell yes, it means this is exactly what actors need to become a superstar – a soap brand! And now this soap brand is conducting an award show. Do we care about the scripts, acting abilities, production hassles, cameras, lights and action? Looking at the commercial, it doesn’t seem so, because all of it is so passe.
Do we wish to see superstars like Shah Rukh Khan along with Bollywood’s leading ladies from every era – Sharmila Tagore, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and Deepika Padukone who dominated the box office, promoting a product in this manner? Just to remind you, two of them – SRK and Deepika, have managed to find a place in the Forbes list this year, without having any Godfather in Bollywood or being remotely connected to anyone in the industry. This commercial only kind of rejects all the hardwork these celebs put in to attain the number one spot. But these actors aren’t complaining. They are happy to be a part of the endorsement. Its all about money it seems!

We hope these top actors chose better brands in future, which reflects their image and stand in the industry in a much more refined manner. They deserve better!
