DIRECTOR: Ric Roman Waugh
Cast: Dwayne Johnson,Susan Sarandon,Jon Bernthal,Benjamin Bratt
Let’s get two things out of the way. Dwayne The Rock Johnson cant emote, not even with cameras lingering on his tear-less eyes. And if there is a district attorney in the picture,he/she is sure to be standing for election to an office.
That being said,Snitch is a surprise for an action movie with an action star directed by a stuntman. Rather than violence, the film tries to capture the effect that its possibility has on lives. It also strives to get the atmosphere of the drug business, from lowly dealers to the
high cartels,right,even if in a larger-than-life way.
Johnson plays John,an everyday guy in a business suit with a computer on his desk. If you can get past those muscles,he is quite subdued in his construction-businessman look. John finds himself on the wrong side of the law when his estranged 18-year-old son gets caught with drugs that he was only holding for a friend.
His son faces at least 10 years in jail unless John helps the authorities capture a high-end drug dealer. Thats the incongruous deal offered by DA Joanne Keeghan (Sarandon). She has only grudging support of Agent Cooper (the talented Barry Pepper in an unfortunate get-up) in this.
Once those pieces have been set,you know there is only way this game will end. And much as director Waugh lingers over it,that remains the truth.
