This may just be a lucky year for Uday Chopra. After Dhoom 3 crossed Rs 500 crore mark this year — it was 2013’s Christmas release — Uday’s first project as a producer is already making big news. A Hollywood venture, ‘Grace of Monaco’ directed by French director Olivier Dahan of Oscar-winning film La Vie En Rose, is set to open 2014’s Festival de Cannes (May 14 to 25). It is the first project by YRF Entertainment — Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) Hollywood arm, helmed by Uday Chopra.
The film focuses on American Academy-winning actor Grace Kelly who married Prince Rainier III in 1956 to become Princess Grace of Monaco. At a time when France threatened to annex her adopted country, Grace, at the age of 33 manoeuvred a difficult political situation to resolve the issue. This plot forms the crux of the film. While Nicole Kidman plays the titular role, Tim Roth plays the Prince.
“I knew from the moment I read the script that we had something special in Grace of Monaco. I feel proud that YRF Entertainment has managed to reach this milestone with its first release,” said Uday Chopra in a statement issued by Yash Raj Films.
The world preview of the film is on May 14 in the Grand Theatre Lumiere of the Palais des Festivals, in the Official Selection category, out of competition. Apart from YRF Entertainment, Grace of Monaco has been co-produced by Pierre-Ange Le Pogam and Arash Amel, who has also penned the screenplay. The Weinstein Company has acquired the US distribution rights to the film.
