Thor Ragnarok box office: Chris Hemsworth film doing wonders in India, crosses Rs 50 crore

Thor: Ragnarok opened at a record 121 million dollars in its domestic market (United States) and is also doing well in key centers worldwide like German, Japan and China. It outdid Spider-Man: Homecoming’s domestic opening of $ 117 million early in the year.

Taika Watiti’s directorial Thor: Ragnarok seems to be doing exceptionally well in India. Marvel’s latest offering starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tessa Thompson, Cate Blanchett and Tom Hiddleston has crossed the Rs 50 crore mark at Indian box office alone. Released on November 3, the third film in Thor franchise has earned massive praise from critics and love from audiences. It has managed to put a mainstream Bollywood film Ittefaq on the backseat. This one boasts of Taika Watiti’s brand of humour, previously seen in movies like Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do in Shadows. The film currently holds a rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures earlier today. “#ThorRagnarok crosses ₹ 50 cr mark… [Week 2] Fri 2.14 cr, Sat 3.62 cr, Sun 4.25 cr. Total: ₹ 50.38 cr Nett. GrossBOC: ₹ 64.66 cr. India biz,” he said.

Thor: Ragnarok reunites Chris Hemsworth’s Thor with Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk. The duo had not been seen since the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron and their absence was deeply felt in Captain America: Civil War. Supporting actors in this film also include Jeff Goldblum, Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins. Thor: Ragnarok has also surpassed the combined lifetime collection of the first two Thor movies in India in just three days.
