When you imagine the wild sands, huge Pyramids and the great Sphinx, the first thing that pops up in the mind is The Mummy, the phenomenal franchise that shook the globe with all three of its movies. While the third was a bit of a hard sell, the franchise is back and brings in its wake the shared monster universe.

Tom Cruise took to Twitter to share the 15-second teaser which is nothing like you might have imagined. Though digging into the Mummy’s tomb is part of this movie franchise’s legacy, what emerges from the intricate and scary sarcophagus is much spookier than before. Sofia Boutella, of Kingsman and Star Trek fame, with her fancy tattoos (or hieroglyphics?) seems to have managed to push aside the Imhotep of Hamunaptra as she suits up in the ‘white wraps’. With her irises splitting into two, her marks bulging and her resounding roar, this Mummy definitely can’t be contained in the box for sure.

However, the major change which is likely to give you chills is that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz have been replaced by Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis. For some, it might seem like a sacrilege but it’s high time that Rick and Evelyn got new identities.

From the wild sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, the fourth of the series has more action packed with multiple locations on the radar. And underwater action too! Given that it stars Tom Cruise, it is only to be expected.

Watch teaser here:

While the Mission Impossible star is arming up to battle in a “new world of gods and monsters”, one more addition that might raise the bar for the fourth is Gladiator (Russell Crowe) who will be seen on the screen. Also, there is a hint at Universal’s shared monster universe with The Bride of Frankenstein playing.

We can’t wait for the trailer till Sunday!
