Hours after Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from husband Brad Pitt, the actor has released a statement. In the official statement to People magazine, Pitt said, “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”

However, despite the statement, sources say Brad Pitt is “furious” with Angelina Jolie and believes she has put their six children at risk due the media frenzy. Paparazzi is thronging their house while the police are on constant guard to ensure nothing untoward happens. Brad is afraid that their children will become a target for paparazzi. Brad has reportedly said, “She’s just unleashed hell.”
The couple has six children — Maddox, 15, whom Angelina adopted in Cambodia; Zahara, 11, from Ethiopia; Shiloh, to whom she gave birth in Namibia; Pax, 12, adopted in Vietnam; and the twins Vivienne and Knox, 8.
Brad has been quoted as saying by TMZ that Angelina has “unleashed hell” with the shock move. He is also very angry because she Angelina has cited his substance abuse and anger issues as the reason for the split. While Angelina said the couple separated on September 15 in the court documents, it is said that Brad had repeatedly pleaded with her to handle divorce “like adults”.
Earlier, TMZ had reported that Jolie has filed divorce papers from her husband of two years. The two actors who met on the sets of Mr and Mrs Smith have been together since 2005.
Jolie has reportedly asked for physical custody of their children, with Pitt allowed only visitation rights. Jolie has not asked for spousal support.
“This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time,” Jolie’s attorney Robert Offer said in a statement on Tuesday.
Talking about Pitt earlier, Jolie had said that they faced no issues while working in By The Sea – directed by Jolie and starring both of them. They shot for the film during their purported honeymoon. The film, ironically, dealt with the death of a marriage with substance abuse and infidelity as the prime issues. Unlike life, the film ended on a happy note with Angelina and Brad’s characters reconciling their differences.
She had said at the time of the shooting, “Brad and I have our issues, but if the characters were even remotely close to our problems we couldn’t have made the film. To be clear: we have fights and problems like any other couple. We have days when we drive each other absolutely mad and want space, but the problems in the movie aren’t our specific problems.”
Jolie even admitted in an interview earlier this year that the film nearly destroyed her marriage. “It was our way of testing ourselves. We knew that if we could get through this, we’d come out even stronger and happier. And we did. We’ve always liked putting ourselves through challenges, even though it was maybe a little more dangerous for us as a couple. I don’t think we want to go through it again though,” she had said referring to the film.
The news comes as a heartbreak for the couple’s fans and shippers but definitely not a shock because the rumours of problems between the two had been there for past few months.
Earlier this year, Hollywood’s other famous couples like Johnny Depp-Amber Rose, Taylor Swift-Calvin Harris, Taylor Swift-Tom Hiddleston, Demi Lovato-Wilmer Valderrama and Ozzy Osbourne-Sharon Osbourne announced their splits.
One of the most celebrated Hollywood couples, Jolie-Pitt tied the knot in August 2014 after 10 years of togetherness. Before Pitt, Jolie had two divorces — actor Johnny Lee Miller, in 1999 after three years of marriage, and actor Billy Bob Thornton, in 2002 after two years as husband and wife.
While, this was the second marriage for Pitt, who was earlier married to former “Friends” star Jennifer Aniston for five years till 2005.
