Barney Miller, Firefly star Ron Glass dies at 71

Ron Glass, the handsome, prolific character actor best known for his role as Ron Harris, the gregarious detective in the long-running cop comedy Barney Miller, has died at age 71.

Actor Ron Glass, best known for his roles on Barney Miller and Firefly,has passed away at the age of 71. Glass’ representative confirmed his death, but had no further details regarding the cause or location, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The actor made his TV debut in 1973 and appeared in countless series through 2014. He earned a supporting actor Primetime Emmy nomination for his role as Detective Ron Harris on the ’70s sitcom Barney Miller, which he did for seven years.

His other shows included, All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Hawaii Five-O and Joss Whedon’s short-lived Firefly, as well as two episodes of popular sitcom Friends.

Glass was still a regular face on American television as recently as 2014 when he appeared in an episode of CSI. That same year he appeared in Agents of SHIELD as Dr Streiten. His Hollywood peers and co-stars were quick to react to
the news on Twitter.

Actor Samuel L Jackson, who worked with Glass in 2008 film Lakeview Terrace, wrote, “It was an Honor and a Pleasure to work with the Amazing Ron Glass RIP, Sir!”

“Shepard, don’t move. Won’t go far. We love you, Ron Glass. Don’t go far,” wrote Nathan Fillion.

“Ron Glass was one of the greatest actors to work with. His laugh was beyond infectious and his generosity was ever present. #ripronglass,” Alan Tudyk tweeted.
