Peepli Live faces censor troubles over scene
Peepli Live has been pulled up by the censor board for a reference to former PM Lal Baahdur Shastri.
The board of censors has objected to a reference to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in the film Peepli Live.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) wrote to filmmaker Aamir Khan on Monday, mentioning the scene in the recently released film and seeking its removal.
The scene shows a district magistrate being asked to donate a hand-pump to a farmer. The accompanying dialogue is,Ek Lal Bahadur de do (Hand over a Lal Bahadur). The letter says the scene is derogatory and an insult to freedom fighter Shastri.
This demeaning portrayal of a personality who is seen as the most honest politician India has ever had is a clear reflection of your lack of sensitivity and deliberate slander by the actors, producers and directors involved, the letter says.
The letter, signed by advisory panel members Brijmohan Sharma and Mohan Singh Saini, demands immediate deletion of the dialogue from the movie and a public apology to the people for insulting Shastri,Indias great Prime Minister.
