A day after media reports said that southern beauty and Barfi! actress Ileana D’ Cruz had bagged Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gabbar, the producer director said the reports were false.
Gabbar is the Hindi remake of A Murugadoss’ Tamil blockbuster Ramana and has Akshay Kumar in the lead.
“The report is absolutely false. It is most definitely not Ileana. We are yet to zero in on a leading lady for Akshay in Gabbar. But it will be someone who brings a freshness to the project,” said producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Another source close to the project said that the heroine’s part in Gabbar is work in progress.
“The subject is an out-and-out one-man show. In the original Tamil film the heroine played by Simran dies in the first-half of the plot. Her role is being rewritten for the Hindi version. Only then would the casting be decided.”
Gabbar which is about a man’s fight against corruption will mark the debut of south director Krish of Gamyam (2008) and Vedam (2010) fame.
The movie is slated to go on floors later this year and will be co-produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s close friend Shabina Khan.
