Friday clash: It’s Aurangzeb vs The Great Gatsby

Arjun Kapoor's second outing in Bollywood will see him in a double role.

Bollywood’s new kid on the block Arjun Kapoor will be competing with megastar and veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan at the box office this week. Arjun Kapoor’s Aurangzeb and Amitabh Bachchan’s The Great Gatsby release today.

Arjun Kapoor’s second outing in Bollywood – Aurangzeb – will see him in a double role.

Aurangzeb,directed by debutant Atul Sabharwal,has an ensemble cast including Rishi Kapoor,Jackie Shroff,Deepti Naval,Amrita Singh and South actor Prithviraj. Jackie Shroff and Amrita Singh have been paired together after almost two decades.

Pakistani singer and veteran actress Salma Agha’s daughter Sasha Agha also makes her Bollywood debut with the movie.

This film,produced by the Yash Raj Films’ is rumoured to be a fresh take on the 1978 blockbuster film Trishul.

Film’s director Atul Sabharwal is very impressed with the 27-year-old Ishaqzaade actor and has already planned a second movie with him.

“He (Arjun) is my favourite actor. I find a rare quality in him… I feel he has a face that has a character… and the aura of a star like Amitabh Bachchan,Toshiro Mifune and Marcello Mastroianni. I find those faces interesting,” Sabharwal told PTI in an interview.

Arjun Kapoor has also shot a few intimate scenes with his co-star Sasha Agha.

Up next this week will be Amitabh Bachchan’s Hollywood debut film The Great Gatsby,which releases in India today.

The Cannes film festival conjured up the “Roaring Twenties” on Wednesday with a glamorous opening night premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby”,complete with dancers in flapper dresses on the red carpet and umbrellas to keep off the rain.

The cast of “The Great Gatbsy” arrived to loud cheers with all eyes on Leonardo DiCaprio,who plays mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby in the flashy adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel.

Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan,making his Hollywood debut in the film,sparkled in a black sequined dinner jacket.

Amitabh Bachchan portrays Meyer Wolfsheim in director Baz Luhrmann’s take on the classic American novel.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio,Tobey Mcguire and Carey Mulligan.
