There’s no party quite like the Bollywood Diwali where the most celebrated and selfie-d faces of the B-Town gather together to celebrate the festival of lights. These faces are the symbolism of festivities and hence, the firecracker industry too takes full advantage of them.
So, you can see a certain enticing Katrina Kaif or an inviting Priyanka Chopra on the cover of the boxes of various phuljharis, anaar, and the likes. But what if they had to endorse a particular firecracker or patakha, the condition being that the patakha they endorse should match their personality.
We try to take the imagination a level up and give a list of the most celebrated stars of the recent times and to which patakha they can be compared with.
1. And we start with the most popular amongst them all – Phuljhari.
Now, for long a ‘phuljhari’ has been compared with a damsel or just somebody who has the sparks. And going by that tradition, who better than Kangana Ranaut to devote the title to. She is hot, sparkly and yeah, a total ‘phujhari’ a la Bollywood style.
Her recent overbearing statements haven’t found much of a fan following, quite unlike her acting talent. But love her, hate her; you just can’t ignore her, just like our favourite ‘phujhari’.
And yes, she can leave you with a major burn, if you mess with her.
2. Sootli bomb or the flower bomb
These are the kinds you’ll blow off once in a while. You won’t even pay much attention to them while they are lying low; but once you have them in your hand, you know you have a winner.
Aamir Khan is a ‘Sootli Bomb’ by that standard. He won’t be seen all year long or even at award functions. He’ll come during Christmas, blow off the Box-Office with his sole movie release that year and leave you astounded.
Better comparisons were never made, we say.
If we go by the fruit connotation of the word, we have ‘Eik Anaar Sau Beemaar’ and if by the firecracker one, it is the most spectacular vision of the night. And by both ways, only superstar Salman Khan has the aura to fit in.
He just comes with any story, any premise, anything, and you know he’ll shine through, spread light and sparks. And with so many actors, artistes thriving on his support, he is the undisputable ‘anaar’ of the industry.
Single, 100-pack, 1000-pack – A ‘ladi’ comes in all shapes and sizes, and is the most popular of the lot. And it’s trendy too. Just like ‘anaar’, it rules the patakhas and is loved by men, women and children, again of all shapes and sizes.
And hence, there can be no better comparison than the King Khan – Shah Rukh Khan. He can do a ‘Chak De! India’, ‘Swades’, ‘Happy New Year’ and still make you long for ‘Dilwale’. He is the evergreen ‘ladi’ of the pack.
For the uninitiated, Pencil is a sleek torch giving out light. Everybody loves it.
And in a way, it’s safe to call Priyanka Chopra that too. PC is ruling the roost with her choice of movies in Bollywood and has taken Hollywood by storm with her appearance in TV series ‘Quantico’. Way to go, girls.
6. Colour fountain
Akshay ‘Khiladi’ Kumar and Ranveer ‘Energy’ Singh are the perfect examples for being called the colour fountains of the Hindi Film Industry, for not only are they men of different colours, but also, with their antics and histrionics, spread the colours abound.
7. Fancy Fireworks
Everything is so fancy about Alia Bhatt that we can’t help but associate the term “fancy” with her. Ranging from her movie choices, to her fashion moves and the quirky statements she keeps on making day in and day out, she is the ‘Queen’ of everything fancy and hence, fancy fireworks is what she fits in.
If you have ever been a Chakri fan, all you know is that you are lucky if you find at least two pieces in the pack that work completely fine, with which you are completely satisfied. Rest are just ashes in the air.
And that brings us to comparing it with our ‘Haider’ Shahid Kapoor. He is a charmer, undoubtedly and given his father Pankaj Kapur’s genes, makes for one of the best actors of the nation. Yet, he falters and is able to give only a few movies that truly speak of his calibre as an actor. ‘Kucch toh “chakkar” hai!’
Also known as ‘Surri’, it makes a huge sound and then fizzles out, bringing us to compare it with the Bollywood begum Kareena Kapoor. She would talk of doing women centric movies all year round, but will end up doing miniscule roles in big star movies like ‘Bodyguard’ or ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. Not that we don’t like her in these movies, but we would surely like her doing better roles. But we are waiting for R Balki’s Ki And Ka.
Rockets are our favourite. They make no sound, no qualms, nothing at all. They just get lit up and shoot to their destinations, without any drama. And going by that we have the young heartthrob Varun Dhawan and singing sensation Arijit Singh. They came and with the sheer dint of their hard work and talent, have shot up to heights.
11. Musical fireworks
