It was Salman Khan mania that prevailed at ‘Hero’ music concert held on Sunday (September 6) evening. For starters, the superstar was in his elements from enthralling the crowd with his singing to having them in splits with his spontaneous wisecracks. The audience were jubilant as Salman sang ‘Main Hoon Hero Tera’, the title track of ‘Hero’, in his raspy voice. The actor even sportingly called himself an ‘idiot’ on one occasion while explaining why he has been giving new singers a break in his films.
“A song becomes a hit depending on the tune and not the singer. An idiot like me just sang and it got million hits. I don’t know ‘sur’ or ‘taal’ from any angle,” said Salman Khan, who was dressed in dark blue Being Human T shirt and jeans.
Salman Khan was all praise for young guns Amaal Malik and his brother Armaan. Praising the composer-singer duo, Salman Khan said that it is endeavour to give fresh talented voices a platform. “Lots of singers are not getting a chance these days. For ‘Hero’, they wanted some established singer to sing the songs composed by Amaal. I asked why others? Amaal can sing and he has composed the song really well. If Himesh (Reshammiya) can sing, if Wajid (Sajid-Wajid) can sing and if Amaal’s uncle (Anu Malik) can sing, why can’t Amaal sing?” reasoned Salman.

A special guest present at the event was Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, who too has crooned a number in the movie. Rahat, who has delivered blockbuster hits with both Salman and SRK, when asked to compare the musical sensibilities of the two Khans said, ” I have just heard Salman Khan sing. I am yet to hear Shah Rukh bhai sing….”
Before Rahat could complete, Salman Khan intervened saying, “There is no chance (that Rahat will hear Shah Rukh sing), This is a losing battle. I have heard and he (Shah Rukh Khan) will raise my hand as the winner. Even Aamir Khan too.”
The event was brought to a thunderous close by Amaal and his brother Armaan who crooned their way into audience’s hearts with their melodious numbers followed by Sooraj and Aathiya’s dance performances.
What however got Salman Khan silent and heartfelt applause was when he observed a one-minute silence for the departed soul of his dear friend and music composer Aadesh Shrivastava.
