What Amitabh Bachchan has to say about Pahlaj Nihalani and Censor Board

Censor Board chief Pahlaj Nihalani and his censoring ways have troubled many in the film industry. When we asked megastar Amitabh Bachchan if he ever felt stifled by the censoring ways of Pahlaj Nihalani, the actor said, “I will not be able to make a comment on that because I don’t know whether it is right or wrong.”

Commenting further on CBFC, its ways of functioning and remedy available for the distressed lot, Amitabh said, “They work according to certain stipulations that is set by the Government Of India. If the government feels that this is what needs to be allowed or needs to be edited, the board follows it. If you disagree with it there are various mediums where you can fight your case. There have been many examples. It is like the legal system or income tax system. If you don’t agree with it, you can go to the commissioner level. If you don’t agree with the commissioner, you can go to the tribunal. If you don’t agree there, you can go to the High Court and ultimately the Supreme Court. Similarly, if there are rules and regulations set by the government in a democratic society and with a constitution such as ours every individual has the opportunity to challenge every diktat that may have come across provided it is accepted legally.”

When asked about the new censor panel constituted by the government under the leadership of Shyam Benegal, Big B said, “That’s for the government to decide. Whatever rules are made, we will have to follow them.”
