Director R. Balki has just completed a long schedule of his new film Shamitabh with Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Dhanush and Akshara Haasan. And he can’t get over the bonding that he saw Big B share with Dhanush.
“It was like watching two artistes who have worked closely for years. Who would believe Dhanush was working with Amitji for the first time? All their scenes together were amazing because they were done after great thought,” says Balki.
Apparently both Big B and Dhanush reached the sets early so as to be able to practice their lines.
Since Dhanush is not conversant in Hindi, Big B helped him with the dialogues and the pronunciation. Unlike Dhanush’s first Hindi film Raanjhanaa where he played a South Indian, in Shamitabh the script has not been moulded to accommodate Dhanush’s personality and diction.
He had to work hard on his Hindi and Big B helped him with that.
Not many know this. But the Big B dislikes the air conditioner and prefers to work with it off. This aversion to artificial cooling would’ve got sticky for the cast in the sweltering heat that Mumbai witnessed last month.
But not the Shamitabh team. Says Balki, “No one felt the heat. Everyone just was just so taken up with Amitji’s level of dedication. From Dhanush who’s an established actor to Akshara who is the baby of our unit, Mr Bachchan is the natural leader on the sets. If he doesn’t feel the heat no one else does.”
