Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bombay Velvet’ has had us captivated ever since it was first announced. Set in ‘Bombay’, (now known as Mumbai) of the 60s, the trailer gave us a glimpse of the film to come – dripping with beautiful retro tones, lights and glamour.
In a recently released video by the team, we also get a peek into the action behind the scenes. It all began with director Anurag’s vision of how he envisaged the city and its story along with filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane. And that’s how the humongous set came to be.
The video titled, ‘The Big-Shot Bombay Velvet World’, walks us through the work and play on the sets – over 600 crewmembers working with their hands and minds as they built and created.
Actors Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma can also be seen hard at work. Playing a fighter in the film, Ranbir toils in the gym, while Anushka, who is a jazz singer, works on her vocals. The baddie of the film, Karan Johar is also pictured trying on his costumes and perfecting the smooth suave moves of Parsi businessman Kaizad Khambatta, his character.
10,000 kilos of costumes, 25,000 kilos of art material, German guns, over 200 vintage cars and more than 600 crew members – that’s what went into creating the great magical world of ‘Bombay Velvet’.
This is the first time that Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma will be seen sharing space onscreen. The screenplay of ‘Bombay Velvet’, that has been in the making for the last five years, is jointly written by Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar and Vikramaditya Motwane.
Bombay Velvet, which is a large screen adaptation of Gyan Prakash’s ‘Mumbai Fables’, will release on May 15.
