It seems like Ae Dil Hai Mushkil cannot catch a break. After the mammoth controversy it faced for casting Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, the film is now in the cross-hair for making fun of the legendary singer Mohammad Rafi.
Karan Johar’s film has called upon itself the wrath of many including the otherwise peace-loving Rafi family, singer Sonu Nigam and disco king Bappi Lahiri as well as zillions of Rafi fans. The reason for their anger is a dialogue of Anushka Sharma in the film where she tells Ranbir Kapoor’s character, “Mohammad Rafi? Woh gaate kam rote zyada the na?” After Shahid Rafi, son of the singer, lashed out at KJo’s insensitive behaviour, it is now the turn of Sonu Nigam to target the director for mocking a singer who has given the country some great and evergreen compositions.
Sonu backed Shahid in his protest and told media, “If you can listen to the same joke about your parents then we are wrong. If your blood boils that how can someone say something like this about my parents, then hum sahi hain.”
The singer, who refuses to take any ‘rubbish against the god of music fraternity’, added, ” When something bad will be said about your father then obviously, you’d get hurt.” Bappi Lahiri also feels that there is no singer in the modern era who can match-up to the level of Rafi. He also attacked the dialogue writer and said that person had no knowledge of Mohammad Rafi or of music. he added that today’s generation must learn the culture of being respectful towards their elders.
Shahid Rafi has plans to take the matter to CBFC chief Pankaj Nihalani as a lot of Rafi fans have asked him to take some action.
