Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor will be feted with the Best Actress honour for her performance in the biopic Neerja at the Asia Vision Movie Awards.
The actress will be presented the honour at the 11th Edition of the Asia Vision Movie Awards, to be held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on Friday, read a statement issued on behalf of Sonam.
Directed by Ram Madhvani, Neerja featured Sonam as Neerja Bhanot, who had lost her life while saving others on a hijacked Pan Am plane.
Sonam has already won some accolades for her performance in the film and was lauded by critics for her role. The actor who debuted with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Saawariya recently shared a nostalgic post about the movie completing nine years. The 31-year-old star shared a poster of the 2007 romantic drama on social media and asked her fans to celebrate the moment with her. Sonam shared stills from the film, with the caption, “And what an incredible journey it’s been so far… #9yearsofSaawariya! Relive the #nostalgia with me! #SanjayLeelaBhansali #RanbirKapoor.”
While Saawariya, which was also the debut of Ranbir Kapoor, did not do well at the box office, Sonam went on to win accolades for her later films like Raanjhanaa, Khoobsurat, and this year’s Neerja. As she now nears a decade in the industry, she is playing all her cards right. Sonam is currently gearing up for her next Veere Di Wedding, which also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Swara Bhaskar.
