When it rains it pours – The adage could well hold true for Shruti Haasan who, after a hiatus of more than two years, would be returning to Bollywood scheme of things.
Ramaiya Vastavaiya and D-Day are the films in question, both of which are arriving on the same day i.e. July 19.
“It wasn’t planned this way though,” says an insider,”When Shruti had signed the films; they were meant to be spaced out much better. All through the shooting as well there was no definitive date for either of the two films. It just so happened that they both reached the finishing mark together and now Shruti has no other option but to put all her money on the same Friday,a scenario that any actor, especially the one who is making her comeback, would dread.
Fortunately for her,she is playing entirely different characters in both the films and duration of her screen time differs as well.
“While in D-Day she is playing a prostitute and is a part of a large ensemble affair which is primarily led by a very strong male cast,in Ramaiya Vastavaiya she is playing a quintessential female lead in a Bollywood affair for the first time ever,” a source adds,”After a false beginning in an ensemble action film like Luck and a minor part in Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji,she should have something to cheer about.”
This is what producer Kumar Taurani also said to her when he and Prabhu Deva selected her for Ramaiya Vastavaiya.
“She was high on her South films then. However,it was agreed that she would have to take a fresh start in Bollywood,” smiles Taurani,”Hindi films are an altogether different ballgame. For all practical purposes,we are relaunching her in Bollywood.”
Though Nikhil Advani isn’t making any such claims regarding Shruti’s comeback,he does acknowledge her presence and relevance to D-Day. While that happens, one waits to see where exactly does Shruti’s heart lie as she finds her films indulging in a heads on clash at the box office.
