Shivaay box office collection day 1: Watch Shivaay’s audience reaction
Shivaay was strong in single screens, as compared to multiplexes. The film has released on 2800-3000 screens. Shivaay has been made at an approximate budget of Rs 105 crore with Rs 20 crore spent on promotions. It has already earned Rs 50 crore through sale of rights.
Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn’s track record as a director is not exactly inspirational. His directorial debut U Me aur Hum (2008) had tanked at the box-office. With Shivaay, it remains to be seen how well he has tackled this action thriller set in snow-capped mountains.
The Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta wrote, “Ajay Devgn’s second directorial outing, in which he plays the In and As eponymous hero, sweeps us up onto craggy cliffs and down into deep crevasses, both in the Himalayas and in Bulgaria, and then leaves us high and dry. Well-made, this could have been a cross-continental film about filial love and romantic betrayal, but Shivaay is a monumental near-three hour long drag, giving you too much empty time to wonder just how much lower it can sink, and the next thing you know, it slips a few more notches.”

Ajay Devgn has gone all out to promote Shivaay. The actor also released an audio that had self-proclaimed critic KRK claiming that he had been allegedly been paid Rs 25 lakh to tweet positively about ADHM at the expense of Shivaay. The controversy died down soon after Pakistani actors ban issue took over.
