Shahid Kapoor is undoubtedly ecstatic to be a leading part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next magnum opus, Padmavati. The Udta Punjab star who is currently on paternity break is looking forward to joining Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone on the sets of one of Bollywood’s most expensive historic films.
Talking about Padmavati for the first time ever, Shahid said, “I wish Padmavati came to me five or six years back, I hope I did it. I am happy it is coming to me today. I am happy that I am working with a filmmaker like Sanjay Leela Bhansali. When I saw his last film Bajirao Mastani, I went berserk on Twitter because I absolutely loved it. I expressed openly how much I enjoyed the film and I was very happy that an Indian film was made at that size and scale. The fact that it did exceedingly well was great and you know that it was a film that was loved by people. I am grateful and thankful for that opportunity. If five years back I said no to it, someone would’ve watched me and said that’s the stupidest mistake of my life. Maybe it is coming to me today because I am ready for it.”
Shahid also sounded peeved at reports that pitted him against Ranveer terming Padmavati as a two hero project where one actor has a better role as opposed to the other. Laying rest to all such speculations, Shahid said, “This is the stuff I have been reading in papers and I find it absurd when people say it is ‘two hero’ film. Even Udta Punjab had two heroes and two heroines. This film has three principle characters. To say it’s a two hero project is just a way of creating some kind of material which is exciting at a very frivolous level. It’s a great opportunity for all three of us. It’s a great role for Deepika, it’s a fantastic role for Ranveer and great role for me. I am so happy that the film has been cast the way it has and it is getting made. I hope we come out with a great cinematic experience for the audience because that is what all of us want.”
The sets of the movie have been erected in Mehboob studio where the initial parts will be shot. Padmavati traces the story of Rani Padmini who was the second wife of Raja Ratan Singh of Mewar and how her beauty made an infatuated Muslim King Alauddin Khilji unleash war on the Rajputs to capture Padmini. Deepika essays the role of Padmani aka Padmavati while Shahid and Ranveer play Raja Ratan Singh and Alauddin Khilji respectively.
