Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om being adapted into musical in Japan, see poster

Farah Khan announced that as the Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone-starrer Om Shanti Om completes its nine years, the film will be turned into a musical in Japan.

On the ninth anniversary of Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s romantic melodrama, Om Shanti Om, its director Farah Khan has revealed that the superhit film is being turned into a musical in Japan. Farah took to Twitter to make the announcement, “Maybe a good day to announce on #9YearsOfOmShantiOm that it’s being made into a huge musical in japan!@iamsrk @deepikapadukone @rampalarjun,” the filmmaker tweeted alongside the poster of the musical.

The poster shows two Japanese actors recreating a still from the original film, which featured both Shah Rukh and Deepika in double roles. The movie marked Deepika’s debut in Bollywood and also starred Arjun Rampal as the main antagonist. Om Shanti Om got a big release in Japan in 2013. Another Bollywood biggie, superstar Salman Khan-starrer Ek Tha Tiger, also released in the country in the same year.

Meanwhile, Farah thanked the film’s fans for giving it love even after nine years of its release. “Thank you all for wishing us #9YearsOfOmShantiOm 2day!!It’s beautiful to know this film is celebrated somewhere every day @iamsrk thank you,” she posted.

Om Shanti Om clashed with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya, which marked the debut of Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, at the box office. The romantic movie was beaten by Om Shanti Om at the BO.

Om Shanti Om was Farah and Shah Rukh’s second collaboration after Main Hoon Na. Shah Rukh also produced the movie. They re-teamed in 2014 for Happy New Year which also starred Deepika. Shah Rukh is producing Farah’s upcoming directorial venture.
