“Bangla bolbo na eki kokhono hoye? ( How can I not speak Bengali),” Shah Rukh Khan said while addressing a crowd in Kolkata at the opening of Kolkata film fest. In the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the star continued to speak while the crowd had a great time laughing at his cute attempt to grasp the proper Bengali accent. The actor confessed that his Bengali is weak and told Jaya Bachchan, she can spank him later.
Shah Rukh Khan, who is the face of West Bengal Tourism and owner of the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders, was present at the Kolkata International Film Festival inauguration ceremony along with Amitabh Bachchan, his wife and actor Jaya Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Kajol and Parineeti Chopra.
In the speech, which he made in Bengali, he confessed that he has made a lot of mistakes and it’s all his fault. “I hope you will forgive me for my mistake. Today I will speak in another language that’s the language of cinema. So please don’t laugh at me, I am getting there,” he said.
You may drool when he says ‘Rahul, naam toh suna hi hoga’, or when he opens his arms widely to express his passion. But when he tries to impress a bunch of Bengalis in Kolkata by speaking the language, he falls in the category of non-Bengalis who fail to enunciate the words in the right manner and end up sounding hilariously cute.
But never mind. Badein badein deshon mei choti choti mistakes hoti rehti hain. Right?
