Neha Dhupia now joins the list of celebrities who have their own talk shows. But unlike others, this talk show will be on the audio medium, Saavn. The show which is titled #NoFilterNeha will see the former beauty queen grilling her actor buddies on stories about their personal lives hitherto unheard by the common masses.
From Karan Johar revealing how he went for shopping after having sex and telling Neha that none of her body parts interested him, to Ranbir Kapoor talking about his former girlfriends Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone, #NoFilterNeha professes to showcase the unfiltered side of B-town celebs. In an exclusive conversation with indianexpress.com, Neha tells us more about her show.
None of your body parts interest me. In what context did Karan Johar say this?
He said this on my show. I have proposed marriage to Karan thrice at different places as a joke and each time he has turned me down. He is the only man who I have proposed marriage to. Apart from all the reasons he gave for turning me down, one of them was this.
How did you get all these celebs to open up?
That’s what I do at #NoFilterNeha. Some of the revelations that we have on my show from the celebs are amusing, shocking and humourous. For me as an individual, the one trait that people should have is wit. All these people on my show have it. That wit comes with confidence.
Like Karan talking about his sex life?
It’s unbelievable. You just have to hear about what happened to him. We are not talking to Karan Johar about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai but what happened after Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and kya kya hota hai. So it’s all of that. We stayed away from stuff that would sound journalistic because am not educated in that field.
So sex still sells?
Shah Rukh Khan definitely sells…
Yeah both do. Both do
Why didn’t you think of doing something on the visual medium?
We are also looking at a video format. But what I feel is with an audio medium celebs open up easily. Also, podcasts are doing so well globally. This one had a more global reach. Saavn plays in more than 20 countries.
It’s interesting you say these celebs open up more during an audio chat than a video one. Why?
They are not as unfiltered when the cameras are rolling. Also, I feel it has got a lot to do with me because I am friends with them and it’s different when they chat up with me. Everything is dealt with wit and humour and there is no controversy. We don’t want this to be a controversial show.
Most of the celebs on your show are actually outspoken people in their real lives too. How about getting someone like an Amitabh Bachchan and doing a no filter talk show with him?
We do have big plans. I was hoping these are the people who will set the tone. Like I have never had big one hour conversations with Ranbir or others.
When you entered the world of Bollywood, did you find it to be a filtered or unfiltered world?
Very filtered. Like everyday is very filtered. I went for a film trial a few days ago and you always say the politest thing. When you are in front of people because they are good at their work or in a position of power, you say polite things. There are so many things that you want to say but you always hold back. It’s not like a US political debate where you are going boom and clawing each other. It’s a very filtered world. But isn’t that the way of the world?
I want to know when are these three planning to come in a movie together.
Lastly, a no filter question for you. As an army kid, where does your sympathy lie? With Indians or Pakistani actors?
It’s a tough one to answer. I will stay away from answering. It is too topical and will steer everything in that direction.
