Today is the day when Salman Khan’s legion of fans have a perfect reason to indulge in celebrations as Bollywood’s chronic bachelor and India’s current biggest box-office superstar Salman Khan gears up for first big release of 2016, Sultan. Brimming with confidence after the super success of Bhajrangi Bhaijaan last year( although Prem Ratan Dhan Payo didn’t garner critical acclaim, the movie did great business), Salman will be looking to stake his claim as the real ‘Sultan’ of tinseltown with this wrestling based sports drama. And if indications based on the hiked ticketing prices and the plethora of screen numbers allotted to the movie are anything to go by, one can expect Sultan to rake in big moolah at the box-office yet again.

What’s looking good
Salman can never go wrong on Eid. The actor’s Midas touch during the festive season was evident during the release of Kick a couple of years back when despite the lackluster script, the movie made roaring business at the box-office. Sultan which opens today(Wednesday) will have a free solo run for a period of 10 days till Thursday next week which also includes the coming weekend and a holiday in the form of Eid. Also there are no other films releasing alongside Sultan. Suffice to say footfalls will be at an all time high.
Increased ticket rates and screen numbers:
Strike the iron while it is hot. Salman is red hot and theater owners are looking to cash in on Bollywood’s biggest phenomenon. Prices have soared sky high with popular multiplexes charging as high as Rs. 950 for certain seats. Prices of even front row seats have been significantly upped. Add to that a total of 12 shows in multiplexes with the first show starting as early as 8.30 am. You have a winner in hand.
Salman in a different avatar:
We have never seen Salman in a langot and that itself is novelty for many of his die-hard fans. Apart from Bhai’s pantless avatar, Sultan looks to be a good sports based drama where one will get to see some good wrestling and MMA moves. The story looks simply weaved and what should hold the key here is Salman’s performance. Salman-Anushka pairing is something to watch out for though it remains to be seen how lengthy Anushka’s role would be in a Salman Khan film. Also exciting to see and hear would be Salman’s Haryanvi dialect.

What’s not looking good:
Let’s be honest and say Sultan could have had better melody. The songs have not exactly caught on the imagination of the masses unlike Bhajrangi Bhaijaan. Even Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s rendition of Jag Ghoomeya was an average affair.
Salman’s raped woman controversy:
Now this is a controversy that Salman could have done without. The rogue comment has affected his image and made him controversy’s favourite child yet again. With NCW behind him seeking an apology, it remains to be seen if Salman will issue one ultimately.
YRF’s average track record:
Though YRF still remains India’s numero uno film production company, the truth is they need a massive hit. Some of their recent offerings including SRK’s Fan have not been able to hit the bull’s eye. Let’s wait and see Sultan and Salman are able to turn things around for them.
