You use whatever language you want to use.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has had a love-hate relationship with Twitter. The actor, who at present commands 14 million followers on Twitter, had once vented his ire at fans for badmouthing other stars. Salman Khan had then even questioned about the presence of people with false identities on Twitter. So angry was Salman Khan with the abusive language used on his Twitter profile that he almost threatened to quit the microblogging site, if fans didn’t behave. The macho man even indulged in a clean-up act recently by removing some of his unwanted followers. In a candid chat with Indian Express.com, Salman opened up about Twitter, its misuse by fraudsters and the remedy.

Ques: Tell us about false identities who trouble you on Twitter?
Salman Khan: It’s like a high end curtain where you take on a false identity and you go out and bajofy (abuse) whoever you want to. You use whatever language you want to use. Very soon these people would come out and say yes we are the ones who did it, what will you do? For them, it is a nice naughty thing. Some people have gone overboard using false identities by abusing and humiliating people. You know how many of them keep tweeting back. Sadly, they just don’t have the guts to come out. Freedom of speech should be responsibly used. Whatever they are doing is cowardice and it is in this direction most of the social media people are going which is not very Hindustani or brave. If the tweets are shown to their parents, imagine what will happen to them.

Ques: What is the solution then?
Salman Khan: There was a time when we thought we will find out who these people are, where they come from, which family they belong to and who their parents are. Are they doing it by themselves or being asked to do it? We got these people tracked and then thought of exposing them. But then if he is doing, it wouldn’t have been right on our part to do the same as well. Had we exposed them, it would have stigmatised him and his family which wouldn’t have been the right thing to do. So, we thought of another way to do it.

Ques: And what would it be?
Salman Khan: Basically, we will start our own digital thing and at that point of time we will invite our fans to come in there and join us. Today you have your driver’s license, passport, birth certificate which establishes your real identity. So, whoever comes in with one right identity, he or she can join us. All our other brands will come together and those people who joins us under their genuine identities will be able to avail of the benefits like special discounts. So our brands will benefit all these true people. We will also have knowledge of who are genuine. In the last four months, I have indulged in a clearance wherein I removed a lot of people. Those who were not interacting, I removed all those people. I don’t want to increase the number of followers. It doesn’t matter to me.
