‘Bajirao Mastani’s newly released song Pinga ran in to rough weather with Peshwa descendants taking deep objection to the portrayal of Kashi Bai and Mastani. While Mohini Karkarey thrashed Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the shoddy depiction of Kashi Bai and Mastani through an open letter, Prasadrao Peshwe in his letter written to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra has accused the makers of converting Pinga into an item number.

Strangely enough, team ‘Bajirao Mastani’ seemed evasive when The Indian Express.com quizzed Deepika and Priyanka about the controversy. The emcee for the evening tried his best to disallow the question. While Deepika kept mum, Priyanka decided to answer our question.

“The film is a part of history. The film is based on the book ‘Rau’ and it is also his version of what happened in Bajirao and Mastani love story,” said Priyanka, who joined the cast of Bajirao Mastani via video conferencing from US.

Interestingly, the man who was supposed to answer all queries relating to the Pinga controversy, Sanjay Leela Bhansali stayed away from the press conference on the pretext of having to attend an urgent edit session.

Almost half an hour later post the press conference, Bhansali was still very much at the venue chit chatting. Looks like the director certainly wanted to avoid all uncomfortable queries.

‘Bajirao Mastani’ is all set to release on December 18.
