Raanjhanaa is a hit and for Sonam Kapoor, there is finally a biggie against her name. With I Hate Luv Storys being her last major success, there was a lull period of three years with Aisha being the only moderate runner. Now that Raanjhanaa has not just been a commercial success, but also fetched Sonam quite some appreciation, industry in general has managed to gain some more options at least.
“For last so many years,if at all there was a requirement for a young leading lady who wasn’t over exposed yet,the top choices were Deepika Padukone,Anushka Sharma or Sonakshi Sinha. There was just no youngster available and this is the reason why Deepika and Sonakshi are being seen in three-four films a year with Anushka following suit,” says an insider.
“Sonam could have fitted in well but then a slew of unsuccessful films in the form of Mausam,Thank You and Players turned out to be a spanner in her plans,” says a filmmaker,”Not that there was a dearth of offers for her. However she too decided to lie low and instead of just opting for a big banner, big hero and a big director, she waited for a correct film that brought her credibility as an actor.”
In case of Raanjhanaa, banner was not a problem as Eros had promised to pitch the film well. However,Aanand L Rai was still getting into the big league after scoring quite well in Tanu Weds Manu and Dhanush was making his debut in Bollywood after proving his mettle down South. It was a big gamble that she played and it paid off.
This has pretty much turned out to be a win-win situation for all. So while Sonam can now breathe easy and pick up films of her choice, the pool has increased for her as well since filmmakers aren’t reaching out to her with frivolous parts.
“There is someone beyond Deepikas,Anushkas and Sonakshis to look forward to,” adds a source,”Let us not forget that Sonam isn’t a newbie either. She came on the same day as Deepika; remember the infamous clash of Saawariya and Om Shanti Om? It was a matter of time before she proved her mettle. She can resume her innings now.”
We hope Sonam’s choices are well made too!
