Parineeti Chopra has had quite a roller coaster year. After Meri Pyari Bindu, which failed to leave a mark at the box office, she is now flying high for being the female lead of one of the most successful hits this year, the multi-starrer film – Golmaal Again.
From making a debut in 2011 with Ladies vs Ricky Behl to Golmaal Again, Parineeti has come a long way. She was introduced as Priyanka Chopra’s cousin, but today Parineeti is a well-established actor who has various impressive roles in her kitty.
In a brief chat with indianexpress.com, the actor talks about the year that was, her success and failures.
Golmaal Again had a fantastic opening, especially when many films didn’t do well this year. What does this kind of success feel like?
It means a lot to me! I honestly don’t know what to say, I am talking to so many people and they’ve told me how the film broke a lot of records in the first four days of its release. I always used to hear and dream of these things, but I can’t believe that it has happened to my own film. It is dreamy to even believe that I am the heroine of a film that did so well at the box office, especially in a year where so many films have not done too well. Golmaal Again released and it kind of injected life back into the industry, I am happy that I am the heroine of the film.
Working with the whole team was a blast, it was like being on a paid holiday! I was going on sets every day not knowing what would happen, everybody is joking and having fun, it was like a huge party, and we were doing a film in all that. And when you make a film with so much positivity, it shows and that’s exactly what has happened! The fun we had on sets is showing with the way people are loving the film.
All said and done, it is not only all fun and game, I must highlight the point that it is not as easy as it looks to make a film like this, with such an ensemble cast. Rohit (Shetty) sir is a genius. He is great because he has made such a simple story in such a big way.
And being able to connect to each and every person in this country in a fun way, he has made it entertaining and huge, a blockbuster and all that freshness with old characters, that’s simply a work of genius as a director.
But a sweet film like Meri Pyari Bindu which had a good story, music and performances did not do so well…
Golmaal Again and Meri Pyari Bindu are two different films, so we can’t really compare the two. Both are two different businesses. Now just because I had a successful film doesn’t mean I will shy away from my failure, not at all. Meri Pyari Bindu is a lovely film, when it comes on TV it will receive a lot of love and age well. It is like wine, it really will age well. That was probably that film’s journey, and it won’t be fare to compare the two films. I believe every film has a different journey, some do well on TV, some do well in certain centres, and some do well just like that.
Parineeti Chopra has denied all rumours of doing a short film with Karan Johar and is now focusing all her energies on Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar and Namaste Canada, both with Arjun Kapoor. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar is an intense film which Arjun Kapoor has said is “physically and mentally challenging”, whereas Namestey Canada is a light hearted film.
