Padmavati can be called the much awaited film of the year and the first song of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial “Ghoomar” hit headlines as soon as it was released on Wednesday. As much as we loved Deepika Padukone in the folk number, the actor confessed through a tweet that, “Ghoomar has to be one of the most difficult yet most fulfilling song sequences i have ever shot for.”
After seeing the number, we weren’t surprised with its opulence, and “Ghoomar” surely proves that SLB has left no stone unturned in making it the most riveting song sequence ever shot. It has been choreographed by Kruti Mahesh Midya and Shreya Ghoshal has given her soulful voice to it. As a matter of fact, Deepika had to go though some tough lessons to learn this special Rajasthani dance form. She was under the tutelage of renowned Ghoomar expert Jyothi D Tommaar. Adding to it is the fact that the song has already crossed 10 million views in less than 24 hours.
A traditional dance form of Rajput women, performed by Deepika, involves twirling in circles, and reportedly the actor did over 66 twirls while shooting for the song. Also Deepika had to do the dance in an extravagant costume adorned in heavy jewelry, which added to her difficulty. However, seeing the end product, all her hardwork has paid.

Commenting on Ghoomar, Deepika said in a statement, “The Ghoomar Song has been one of the most difficult song sequences that Sanjay Sir and I have shot for. His vision can be seen in the grandiose of the set and the immense hard work we’ve all put into making it. I had started preparing for this film and character for several months before we actually started filming. But it was for The Ghoomar Song that I walked onto set as ‘Padmavati’ for the very first time.”
Deepika then added, “The shooting of Padmavati began with The Ghoomar Song and I will never forget that day. I remember approaching my mark for the first shot and suddenly I felt a chill run through my body. It was almost as if Padmavati‘s soul had entered my body. That feeling still lingers and will continue for years to come.”
With the song and trailer getting so much love from all corners, it looks like the makers’ have won the initial battle. Actor Alia Bhatt has been all praise for Deepika’s fabulous portrayal of Rani Padmini. She recently said, “I’ve not seen the performance yet but I saw the trailer, I think Padmavati…. Deepika as Padmavati was just so fabulous and she just looked like so fabulous and I know I can never look like that or act like that.. she just looks like a Queen and I told her also ‘you are so lovely and so inspiring’ and I just know she is going to nail it in that film I just get that sense. I’m really looking forward to this one.”
