Some of the couples in the industry are considered solid together and when we find out they are going their separate ways, it comes as a shock. That was precisely the case when the news of Malaika Arora Khan and Arbaaz Khan’s separation came out.
After 18 years of marriage, the couple opened up about separation in March and since then, there has been a lot of speculation regarding the reason behind their split. Reports suggested that the budding relationship between Arjun Kapoor and Malaika led to the rift.
The actors have been spotted together every now and then. Arjun is often seen leaving Malaika’s flat at Tuscany Heights in Mumbai late at night. Malaika has been living in the apartment since her separation from Arbaaz. However, after staying mum on the issue for a long time, Malaika during an interview to a magazine has finally opened up about the rumours.
A report in DNA quotes Malaika as saying that friendship is often misconstrued, “Arjun is a very good friend of mine. But people give a very different meaning to it, which isn’t true.” Even while filing their mutual separation in March, the couple had agreed that their decision is not because of a third person.
The couple said in a statement, “We are not separated because of a third random person, like there were stories of a friendship between a businessman and Malaika. Nor was it about his family disapproving of her lifestyle, nor does she feel that her husband is not financially stable. She is not crying on her brother-in-law Salman’s shoulders, asking him to help. They are our family, so please don’t talk about them like that.”
The couple was recently spotted at a family court and it was reported that they have filed for divorce. According to law, divorce by mutual consent can be filed on the ground that the couple has been living separately for a period of one year or more.
