After having proved his mettle in comic roles, Kunaal Roy Kapur is all set to don a new ‘black and white’ avatar as Emraan Hashmi’s lawyer in ‘Azhar’. Kunaal’s character is reportedly based on the real life lawyer who defended cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin in the match-fixing scandal.
“Kunaal plays the defence lawyer and has started shooting for his part. Although his character is inspired from a real character, his role also has elements of fiction to it,” says a source.
Given Kunaal’s penchant for comedy, his role in ‘Azhar’ would also see slight shades of comical elements as well. Before shooting for his part, the actor also apparently met former cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin. “Kunaal did have meeting with Azharuddin as he wanted to get the nuances of his role right before embarking on the shoot,” the source added.
When contacted, Kunaal said: “Yes, I am doing Azhar. I can’t say anything more at this point.”
‘Azhar’ will take a look at the rise and fall of Mohammed Azharuddin. While Emraan Hashmi plays Azhar, Nargis Fakhri will essay the lead role of his second wife Sangeeta Bijlani. Prachi Desai (playing Azhar’s first wife) and Gautam Gulati (playing Ravi Shastri) form the other principal cast.
