Kangana Ranaut’s recently released ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ is continuing to spin its magic at the Box Office. The sequel to the 2011 movie ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ has now conquered the 100 cr frontier and has earned Rs 103.47 cr by the end of the tenth day of its run.

Seldom has Bollywood seen such an exponential rise in the collections of a movie. ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ earned a mere Rs 8.85 cr on its opening day. But with an exceptionally impressive word of mouth, the collections jumped to Rs 38.15 cr by the end of the opening weekend.

As the first week concluded, the movie’s Box Office report showed a stellar Rs 70.02 cr and now within 10 days of its release, the movie has managed to amass more than Rs 100 cr.

The movie has also been able to earn more than Rs 36 cr overseas, making it the first film to cross Rs 100 cr Net Box Office this year.

Made on a modest budget of Rs 30 cr, ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ has been appreciated for its script and performance by the actors – Kangana Ranaut, R Madhavan, Jimmy Sheirgill and Deepak Dobriyal among others.

‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ opened to unanimously positive reviews as well as widely appreciative audience reactions and has performed exceedingly well at the box office with a massive return on investment. It released the weekend of the popular IPL (Indian Premier League) semis and finals and still garnered the highest weekend collections of the year (also being a non festive or long holiday weekend).

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the Box Office details.

As mentioned, ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ is now officially the first movie of the year 2015 to cross the 100 cr mark. Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gabbar Is Back’ and Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Piku’ are a close second in terms of collections with Rs 86.55 cr and Rs 77.33 cr respectively.

‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ is also one of the rare female-centric movies to have amassed Rs 100 cr and critics’ admiration in equal measures.

With his movie doing so well, director Aanand L Rai had, in an interview to IANS said, “I am feeling relieved. There was a pressure with the sequel, but I’m overwhelmed with the kind of response that I have received for his film. It is the small characters in the film who have played a pivotal role. I always feel each and every character in the film is extremely important.”

“Nothing can be bigger and more encouraging than this for a filmmaker. I’d like to thank everyone for accepting the film with so much warmth,” he said in another statement.

The story of ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ starts from where the prequel ended. It shows what happens to the lead pair after four years of having their marriage on the rocks.
