The gang of four ‘Fukrey’ boys, Hunny (Pulkit Samrat), Choocha (Varun Sharma), Lali (Manjot Singh) and Zafar (Ali Fazal) created a laughter riot in the theaters back in 2013 and the trailer of the second installment of the franchise, Fukrey Returns too looks promising. Now, after the trailer and the quirky posters, the makers of the movie have released the first track, “Mehbooba”. In the song, the four friends who always look frightened of Bholi Punjaban aka Richa Chadha are seen dancing their way through life. But what is that they are celebrating?
Producer of the film Ritesh Sidhwani reveals, “It’s the first song in the film and comes at a crucial point in the narrative as Part 2 starts exactly one year after the original ended. Richa’s lady don, Bholi Punjaban, is in jail and Hunny, Choocha, Lali and Zafar are enjoying life, believing the past is behind them when lives spiral downwards.”
The song is a recreated version of yesteryear chartbuster “O meri mehbooba” crooned by Mohammad Rafi and picturised on Dharmendra and Zeenat Aman in 1977 film Dharam Veer. The makers of the rehashed version have tinkered with the lyrics of the original version but have retained the hook line, “O meri mehbooba mehbooba mehbooba”. The song has been sung by Neha Kakkar and Yasser Desai and the music is given by Prem and Hardeep. Continuing with the tradition of recreating a yesteryear melody for the younger generation, a rap by Raftaar has been added to the song.
Talking further about the first song of the comedy, Ritesh said “I don’t know about the trend as it depends on the film and its requirement. It worked for “Kala Chashma” and for Judwaa 2. Even in Don we kept “Khaike Paan” and “Yeh Mera Dil”. Thanks to technology we can retain the melody while making it slightly more contemporary.”
Fukrey Returns, co-produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sindhwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment and directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, is releasing on December 15, 2017.
