Farhan Akhtar has become the first male goodwill ambassador for UN Women in South Asia, joining the list that includes the likes Sania Mirza, Emma Watson and Nicole Kidman among others.

UN Women is an initiative by the UN whose main focus has been to end violence against women in the world.

Farhan Akhtar took to Twitter to post a picture of the MARD team, including his wife Adhuna Akhtar, which went along to share this honour with him.

Farhan Akhtar started the MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination) initiative in 2013 and since then the multi-faceted actor has been a strong advocate for women’s rights. He, time and again, has spoken against the crime against women and we believe there couldn’t have been a better representative for India at the UN Women.
