Ek Villain, starring Sidharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor, has got off to a stupendous start at the box office. The film also starring Riteish Deshmukh went on to become the second highest opener of 2014, after Salman Khan’s ‘Jai Ho’. The romantic-thriller managed to earn Rs 16.72 crore the opening day.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the first day figures of ‘Ek Villain’, “#EkVillain Fri ₹ 16.72 cr nett [2539 screens]. India biz. Second highest opener of 2014. In terms of screen average, it’s HIGHEST. AWESOME!”

Taran had earlier tweeted that the movie had thunderous start and the opening day figures will come as a ‘shocker’ for many.

“#EkVillain opening day figures [STUPENDOUS] will come as a shocker for many. This film takes Mohit Suri in an altogether different league,” he later tweeted.

Another trade analyst Komal Nahta tweeted, “‘Ek Villain': Maya Gorakhpur morning show full. Noon matinee and evening 85% sold out in advance. Great! Velocity Indore: ‘Ek Villain’ 09:55 a.m. show Rs. 18,724.85. That’s unbelievable!”

‘Ek Villain’ team was seen celebrating the film’s success at director Mohit Suri’s office in Mumbai. One of the villains from the film, Riteish Deshmukh took to Twitter to post the celebration pictures.

Bollywood’s ace filmmaker Karan Johar, who launched Sidharth Malhotra with ‘Student of the Year’, also took to Twitter to congratulate ‘Ek Villain’ team.

Bhatt camp’s Mahesh Bhatt also congratulated Ek Villain director Mohit Suri.

‘Ek Villain’ hit theatres on June 27. The film’s music composed by Mithoon and Ankit Tiwari is on everyone’s playlist, with ‘Galiyaan by Shraddha Kapoor and ‘Banjara’ emerging as obvious favourites.
