Deepika Padukone launched Hema Malini’s biography Beyond the Dream Girl in Mumbai on Monday. During an interactive session at the event, Deepika shared a few details about her upcoming film Padmavati. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the movie also stars Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor.
The 31-year-old actor shared her experience of playing Rajput Queen Rani Padmavati. She said, “Working on Padmavati was an exhausting experience. It takes quite a lot to work on a character for nine months constantly round the clock. Certain characters just don’t leave your system.”
Deepika Padukone also discussed how she feels fortunate to have worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on three films. “I feel extremely fortunate to work continuously with someone like Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Over five years, we have worked on three films back to back. I have played extremely challenging, empowering and powerful roles in his films,” added Deepika.
The Padmavati actor also spoke about how our film industry is competing with the global cinema, and that’s why it is important to have bigger budgets today.
Deepika said, “Is budget an issue today? It is! Would we like a larger budget to make a film like Padmavati? Of course! That’s where the cinema has gone today, in terms of what the audience demands, and in terms of how much the industry, not only in India, but globally how much we’ve grown. We have to multiply. We don’t have one horse but hundred horses, and we have to make them ten thousand horses.”
